Winnipeg, MB (Sports Network) - Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive back and special teamer Johnny Sears will miss significant time at the start of the upcoming season.
Bombers head coach Paul LaPolice told the Free Press on Tuesday that the Eastern Michigan product will miss at least the next five to six weeks while dealing with a high ankle sprain.
Sears suffered the setback in the final minute of last Thursday's exhibition contest against the Toronto Argonauts.
He will find himself on the nine-game injured list -- along with offensive lineman Paul Swiston -- while Clint Kent and Henoc Muamba will also miss Friday's season opener at Hamilton with injuries not as severe.
