TORONTO -- Toronto FC forward Joao Plata has been named Major League Soccer player of the week.
The 19-year-old Ecuadorian scored his first MLS goal and had an assist in a 2-1 victory over the Houston Dynamo last Saturday.
The five-foot-two Plata was selected in the third round of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft as the 49th overall pick.
He has also played for Ecuadorian champion LDU and the national under-20 team.
