MISSISSAUGA, Ont. -- Devante Smith-Pelly scored three goals as the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors hammered the Owen Sound Attack 7-3 Tuesday night to take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven Ontario Hockey League final.
Mississauga's top line was dangerous all night as Smith-Pelly combined with Justin Shugg and Casey Cizikas for five goals and 10 points.
Smith-Pelly scored once in a four-goal first-period outburst by the Majors and added two more in the third to give him 14 goals in the playoffs.
Smith-Pelly also had an assist on one of Shugg's two goals on the night and Cizikas picked up three assists as the Majors pulled to within one win of capturing the J. Ross Robertson Trophy as the league champions.
Shugg, named OHL player of the week on Monday after picking up six points in the first four games of the series, raised his playoff goal total to 10.
Maxim Kitsyn and Rob Flick had the other goals for the Majors.
Jarrod Maidens, Keevin Cutting and Robby Mignardi scored for the Attack.
Mignardi's 15th playoff goal and fifth in the series, came early in the third period with Owen Sound on a power-play, cutting Mississauga's lead to 4-3.
But the Majors rebounded with three straight goals in the third to seal the win.
Michael Zador started in goal for the Attack, but he was replaced early in the first period after the Majors built up a 2-0 lead. Zador, who had backstopped the Attack to a pair of overtime victories that evened the series at two games apiece, allowed two goals on just six shots.
Scott Stajcer replaced Zador and he gave up five goals on 29 shots.
J.P. Anderson, making his 18th consecutive playoff start in goal for the Majors, had 27 saves.
Game 6 in the series is Thursday night in Owen Sound. If a seventh game is necessary, it will be back in Mississauga on Sunday.
