DOHA, Qatar -- Canadian Dylan Armstrong captured the men's shot put event Friday at the Samsung Diamond League track and field competition.
Armstrong, of Kamloops, B.C., had a meet-best throw of 21.38 metres to finish ahead of Americans Reese Hoffa (21.27 metres) and Ryun Whiting (21.23 metres). Armstrong overtook Hoffa for the gold medal on his final throw.
Armstrong already has the top throw in the world this year, a Canadian-record effort of 21.72 metres at a meet in San Diego.
Malindi Elmore of Kelowna, B.C, was fourth in the women's 1,500-metre event with a time of four minutes 11.79 seconds.
