{allcanada} SHAWINIGAN USES FOUR-GOAL THIRD PERIOD TO OUST P.E.I.

 

The Shawinigan Cataractes just needed the third period to end their series with the P.E.I. Rocket.

Shawinigan scored four times in the third to down P.E.I. 4-1 and win their best-of-seven Quebec Major junior Hockey League playoff series four games to one on Friday.

All four goals came in a span of less than nine minutes.

Maximilien Le Sieur started the Cataractes' roll 7:41 into the period, followed by Jean-Francois Plante, then captain Michael Bournival and finally Dave Labrecque at the 16:06 mark.

Plante and Bournival also had assists.

Shawinigan won the first game of the series 2-1 in overtime on March 25. P.E.I. rebounded the next night with a 4-2 victory. The Cataractes then took Game 3 with a 3-0 shutout. Shawinigan then took a 3-1 series lead with a 4-2 win Wednesday.

The Cataractes will face the Lewiston Maineiacs in the next round of the playoffs.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL it was: Gatineau 4 Rimouski 3 (OT) and Lewiston 6 Moncton 1.

At Charlottetown, Gabriel Girard earned the win for the Cataractes with 36 saves.

Samuel Morneau opened scoring for the Rocket, while Evan Mosher stopped 30 shots.

Olympiques 4 Oceanic 3 (OT)

At Gatineau, Que., Philippe Halley scored the overtime winner as the Olympiques edged Rimouski.

Christian Ouellet struck twice for Gatineau, while Mitchell Porowski also scored.

Alex Belzile had a pair of goals and an assist for the Oceanic, while Jarrad Struthers had a power-play marker.

The Olympiques won the series 4-1, and will face the Victoriaville Tigres in the next round of the playoffs.

Maineiacs 6 Wildcats 1

At Lewiston, Maine, Michael Chaput and Bryce Milson both had power-play goals as the Maineiacs trounced Moncton.

Alex Zafiris, Kirill Kabanov, Matthew Bissonnette and Stefan Fournier also scored for Lewiston.

Devon MacAusland replied for the Wildcats.

The Maineiacs win the series 4-1, and will face the Shawinigan Cataractes in the quarter-finals.
