{allcanada} WHL: ROSS, JOHANSEN LEAD WINTERHAWKS TO 9-1 ROUT OF T-BIRDS

Brad Ross had four goals and Ryan Johansen had four assists to lead the Winterhawks over the Seattle Thunderbirds 9-1 in Western Hockey League play on Friday night.

Portland (44-17-3) had 10 players record at least one point. Nino Niederreiter had two goals and an assist, Craig Cunningham had a goal and two assists, Troy Rutkowski added a goal and an assist, Sven Bartschi contributed three assists, and Brendan Lepisic had a pair of helpers.

Elsewhere in the WHL it was: Saskatoon 9 Kootenay 2; Brandon 6 Regina 3; Edmonton 4 Medicine Hat 3 (SO); Lethbridge 4 Kamloops 1; Chilliwack 1 Kelowna 0; Moose Jaw 5 Prince Albert 3; Spokane 5 Prince George 4; Red Deer 5 Calgary 1; and Tri-City 3 Everett 2 (OT).

At Portland Jason Trott also scored for the Winterhawks. Portland was two for five on the power play while killing off all four penalties.

Luke Lockhart replied for Seattle (24-32-4-5).

Thunderbirds goalie Calvin Pickard made 37 saves through two periods and Michael Salmon made 12 saves in the third, while Keith Hamilton stopped 19 shots for Portland.

Blades 9 Ice 2

At Saskatoon, Darian Dziurzynski had two goals and two assists as the Blades hammered Kootenay.

Josh Nicholls and Stefan Elliott also scored twice for the Blades (50-13-2), who lead the WHL with 102 points. Brayden Schenn and Chris Collins also scored.

Matt Fraser and Joe Antilla replied for the Ice (40-21-4).

Wheat Kings 6 Pats 3

At Brandon, Man., Shayne Wiebe scored two goals, including his 40th of the season, as the Wheat Kings defeated Regina.

Brenden Walker and Paul Ciarelli also scored two goals apiece for the Wheat Kings (29-29-8).

Jodan Weal, with two goals, and Myles Bell replied for the Pats (22-35-8).

Oil Kings 4 Tigers 3 (SO)

At Edmonton, Michael St. Croix scored the only goal of a shootout as the Edmonton Oil Kings beat the Medicine Hat Tigers 4-3 in Western Hockey League action Friday.

Travis Ewanyk, Rhett Rachinski and Michael St.Croix scored in regulation for Edmonton (30-29-7), which blew a 3-0 lead.

Emerson Etem, Linden Vey and Scott McKay replied for Medicine Hat (40-17-8).

Hurricanes 4 Blazers 1

At Kamloops, B.C., Brody Sutter broke a 1-1 tie at 12:06 of the third period as Lethbridge defeated the Blazers .

Mitch Maxwell, with two, and Alex Kuvaev also scored for Lethbridge (22-30-13).

Dylan Willick replied for Kamloops (29-33-4).

Bruins 1 Rockets 0

At Kelowna, B.C., Lucas Gore had a stellar night for Chilliwack, making 29 saves, as the Bruins blanked the Kelowna Rockets 1-0 in Western Hockey League action on Friday night.

Jamie Crooks scored for Chilliwack (28-30-5).

The shutout loss was the fifth of the season for Kelowna (37-26-1).

Warriors 5 Raiders 3

At Moose Jaw, Sask.,Dylan Hood and Andrew Johnson each scored twice as the Warriors beat Prince Albert.

Dylan McIlrath also scored for the Warriors (36-23-5).

Tyler Fiddler scored twice and Brandon Herrod added a short-handed goal for the Raiders (26-34-5).

Chiefs 5 Cougars 4

At Prince George, B.C., Jared Cowen scored twice and James Reid made 24 saves as Spokane defeated the Cougars.

Levko Koper, with a goal and two assists, Blake Gal, and Tyler Johnson also scored for Spokane (41-17-6)..

Brett Connolly, Charles Inglis and Tayler Thompson replied for Prince George (29-32-4).

At Red Deer, Alta., Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored a hat trick to lead the Rebels over Calgary.

Andrej Kudrna had four assists for the Rebels (43-16-7), who also got goals from Mathew Dumba and John Persson.

Kris Foucault scored the lone goal for Calgary (19-40-5).

Tri-City 3 Everett 2 (OT)

At Kennewick, Wash., Carter Ashton scored at 2:52 of overtime to lead Tri-City over Everett.

Tri-City, which trailed the entire game, tied the score at 2-2 at 14:15 of the third with a goal by .

Matt MacKenzie and Kruise Reddick also scored for the Americans (38-21-4).

Josh Birkholz and Scott MacDonald scored for Everett (27-27-10).
