A star hockey player with the Saskatoon Blades says he's got nothing to do with a Facebook page using his name that made an offensive comment about aboriginal people.
Brayden Schenn, 19, is considered one of the top young hockey players in the world and there are at least nine tribute pages set up on the popular social networking website. As well, some people have also tried to impersonate Schenn on a page.
So when word of an offensive "status update" reached the Blades, the Western Hockey League team was quick to condemn it and tell fans that Schenn had nothing to do with it. The Blades didn't specify what was in the comment.
"I would like to apologize to anyone that was hurt by this person's comment," Schenn said in a written statement. "I appreciate all of my fans and am looking forward to focusing on the Blades' playoff run."
At a news conference, Blades officials said hockey players on the team are no longer allowed to have Facebook pages.
Meanwhile, Schenn's agent is asking Facebook to take down the nine to 11 tribute pages that aren't by Schenn.
