TORONTO -- Another year, another record in the bench press at the CFL Evaluation camp.
Michael Knill, a six-foot-six, 350-pound offensive tackle from Wilfrid Laurier, put 225 pounds up 47 times Saturday in testing. He smashed the mark of 40 set last year by former Golden Hawks tailback Mike Montoya.
Knill, an Edmonton native now living in Rochester Hills, Mich., had hoped to register a stunning 50 reps. That would've broke the mark of 49 set by Oregon State defensive tackle Stephen Paea at last month's NFL combine.
Knill is competing against some of the top CFL prospects in this year's camp, which began Saturday and runs through Sunday afternoon. The players will take part in a host of drills before representatives of all eight league teams, who will also interview and evaluate them as part of their preparations for the Canadian college draft May 8.
