{allcanada} WHL: WUDRICK LEADS ROCKETS PAST HITMEN IN OVERTIME

Geordie Wudrick scored his second goal of the game 59 seconds into overtime to lead the Kelowna Rockets to a 4-3 win over the Calgary Hitmen in Western Hockey League action Saturday night.

Colton Sissons had a goal and two assists for the Rockets (36-25-1), who extended their winning streak to three games. Shane McColgan also scored, while Kelowna captain Tyson Barrie had two assists.

Trevor Cheek, Misha Fisenko and Alex Roach scored for the Hitmen (19-38-5), who have now lost three-straight games.

Kelowna goalie Adam Brown made 24 saves to record the win, while his Calgary counterpart Mike Snider stopped 17 of 21 shots he faced at the other end of the ice.

Calgary out shot Kelowna 9-3 in the first period and took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Cheek, who took a pass from Justin Kirsch and snapped a shot past Brown.

The Rockets battled back with a short-handed goal at 11:31 of the second period when McCoglan took a drop pass from Barrie and fired a shot past Snider.

Fisenko then put the Hitmen up 2-1 when he swatted a rebound into the Kelowna net before the Rockets tied it up again as Sissons converted a feed from Barrie.

With a minute to go in the second period, Roach skated into the Kelowna zone and wristed a harmless-looking shot on net that trickled past Brown, who misplayed the puck.

The Rockets then pressed to tie up the game and were rewarded when Wudrick scored a wrap-around goal at 16:34 of the third period to send the game into overtime.

Wudrick then converted a feed from Sissons in the extra period to send the crowd of 11,603 Hitmen fans home unhappy.

Wheat Kings 9 Pats 3

At Brandon, Man., Shayne Wiebe scored twice as the Wheat Kings blasted Regina.

Scott Glennie and Rene Hunter each had a goal and two assists for Brandon (27-29-8), while Mark Stone had three assists. Jens Meilleur, Mike Ferland, Brodie Melnychuk, Paul Ciarelli and Jason Swyripa scored the other goals.

Jordan Weal scored twice for the Pats (22-33-8) and Dyson Stevenson also found the net.

Giants 5 Bruins 1

At Chilliwack, B.C., Vancouver scored four first-period goals and never looked back en route to a victory over the Bruins.

Brendan Gallagher had two goals and added an assist for the Giants (32-24-5), while Nathan Burns, Spencer Bennett and Michael Burns also scored. Gallagher's goals were his 40th and 41st of the season.

Captain Brandon Manning had the lone marker for Chilliwack (25-30-5), with assists going to Kevin Sundher and Roman Horak.

Oil Kings 5 Hurricanes 2

At Edmonton, Adrian Van de Mosselaer scored twice and added an assist as the Oil Kings prevailed over Lethbridge.

Kristians Pelss led Edmonton (28-28-7) with a goal and three assists. Michael St. Croix scored and added two assists, while Mark Reners added a single.

Captain Mike Reddington and Cam Braes responded for the Hurricanes (21-29-13).

Cougars 3 Silvertips 1

At Everett, Wash., Sena Acolatse scored twice, including the game-winning goal with less than five minutes remaining, as Prince George defeated the Silvertips.

Brett Connolly added a late short-handed goal for the Cougars (29-31-3), which snapped a five-game losing streak.

Evan Morden scored the lone goal -- his first in the WHL -- for Everett (27-26-9), which had a four-game winning streak stopped.

Blazers 8 Ice 5

At Cranbrook, B.C., Kamloops scored a goal in the final minute of each period on the way to a victory over Kootenay.

Dylann Willick struck twice for the Blazers (29-31-4), while Jordan DePape had a goal and two assists. Logan McVeigh, Ryan Hanes and Dalibor Bortnak all scored and added an assist. JT Barnett and Chase Souto added singles.

Cody Eakin had a goal and two others for the Ice (40-19-4). Hayden Rintoul, Steele Boomer, Kevin King and Joe Antilla rounded out the attack for Kootenay.

Tigers 7 Raiders 3

At Medicine Hat, Alta., Tyler Pitlick scored his first WHL hat trick as the Tigers dumped Prince Albert.

Emerson Etem netted a pair of goals for Medicine Hat (39-17-7), while Curtis Valk and Kellan Tochkin had singles to the delight of a sellout crowd.

Brandon Herrod score a pair and Jonathan Parker a single for the Raiders (25-33-5).

Blades 2 Warriors 1 (SO)

At Moose Jaw, Sask., Adam Morrison made the last save in a goaltenders duel as the Blades beat the Warriors in the shootout.

Morrison stopped all three attempts in the shootout, while Curtis Hamilton scored the only goal in the shootout for Saskatoon (48-13-2).

Moose Jaw's Thomas Heemskerk extended his shutout streak to 150:54 before Stefan Elliott beat him with a fluttering shot with his 26th goal of the season in the third period.

Spencer Edwards had opened the scoring for the Warriors (34-23-5) when he buried a rebound in the first period.

Winterhawks 4 Thunderbirds 3

At Kent, Wash., Nino Niederreiter scored his second goal of the game with 34 seconds left in regulation to lift Portland over Seattle.

Ryan Johansen and Sven Bartschi also scored for the Winterhawks (42-17-3).

Brendan Rouse, Chance Lund and Travis Toomey scored for the Thunderbirds (22-31-9), in a battle between the top and bottom teams in the Western Conference standings.

Chiefs 3 Americans 1

At Spokane, Wash., Dominik Uher had the first and last goal of the game as the Chiefs flew past Tri-City.

Matt Marantz scored the game-winning goal for Spokane (40-17-6) just 16 seconds into the third period. Uher's second goal was into an empty net in the final minute of play.

David Conrad had the lone goal for the Americans (37-19-4).
