{allcanada} QMJHL: MAKAROV'S 20 SAVES LEADS MAINEIACS OVER CAPE BRETON

The Lewiston Maineiacs kept rolling behind the play of their rookie goaltender.

Andrey Makarov made 25 saves as the Maineiacs handled the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 6-0 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Saturday night.

Lewiston has now won five games in a row, two points ahead of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan and good for fifth overall.

It was the second shutout of Makarov's freshman season in the QMJHL. The 18-year-old earned a 3.02 goals-against average and a .897 saves percentage in 18 games so far this year.

The Maineiacs have gained some ground on the Quebec Remparts, their East Division rivals, as Lewiston has won eight of its last 10 games.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL it was: Baie-Comeau 4 Rouyn-Noranda 0; Chicoutimi 5 Victoriaville 3; Acadie-Bathurst 5 Drummondville 1; Saint John 4 Halifax 3; P.E.I. 5 Moncton 2; Quebec 6 Gatineau 3 and Val-d'Or 3 Rimouski 2.

At Lewiston, Maine, Antoine Houde-Caron, Kirill Kabanov, Cole Hawes, Etienne Brodeur, Michael Chaput and Francis Beauvillier did the scoring for the Maineiacs (35-16-2).

Alexandre Veronneau stopped 24 shots for Cape Breton (15-35-4).

Drakkar 4 Huskies 0

At Baie-Comeau, Que., Jason Missiaen made 23 saves as the Drakkar shut out Rouyn-Noranda.

Raphael Bussieres, Mikael Langlois, Alexandre Durette and Alexandre Larouche all scored on the power play for Baie-Comeau (9-37-9).

Robin Gusse stopped 18 shots for the Huskies (9-39-5).

Sagueneens 5 Tigres 3

At Chicoutimi, Que., Alexandre Lavoie had back-to-back goals as the Sagueneens dropped Victoriaville.

Alexandre Roy had a pair of goals, one into an empty net, as Chicoutimi (21-22-10) continues to thrive after the dismissal of long-time coach Richard Martel. Guillaume Asselin also scored for the Sagueneens, who have now won three games in a row.

Vincent Marcoux, Samuel Groulx and Brandon Hynes responded for the Tigres (28-22-4).

Titan 5 Voltigeurs 1

At Bathurst, N.B., Gabriel Levesque had a pair of power-play goals and added two assists as the Titan disposed of Drummondville.

Sebastien Trudeau scored twice for Acadie-Bathurst (34-17-2) and Yoan Pinette added a single.

Top prospect Sean Couturier was the lone scorer for the Voltigeurs (33-14-7).

Sea Dogs 4 Mooseheads 3

At Halifax, Michael Kirkpatrick struck twice as Saint John edged the Mooseheads.

Jonathan Huberdeau had a power-play goal and had two assists for the Sea Dogs (44-5-3), who have earned a point in their last 16 games.

Charles Bety opened scoring for Halifax (17-32-3) with back-to-back goals and Gerrad Grant also found the back of the net.

Rocket 5 Wildcats 2

At Moncton, N.B., Philippe Paradis opened scoring with a short-handed goal as P.E.I. topped the Wildcats.

Adam Polasek had a goal and an assist for the Rocket (24-22-7). Travis McIsaac, Ben Duffy and Samuel Morneau chipped in as well.

Allain Saulnier and Marek Hrivik both assisted on each other's goals for Moncton (26-20-6).

Remparts 6 Olympiques 3

At Quebec City, Jonathan Audy-Marchessault had a goal and set up two others as the Remparts dealt with Gatineau.

Joe Dube, Martin Lefebvre, Ryan Culkin, Frederick Roy and Tomas Filippi rounded out the attack for Quebec (38-12-3).

Christian Ouellet, Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Nicolas Deslauriers supplied the offence for the Olympiques (30-15-8).

Foreurs 3 Oceanic 2

At Val-d'Or, Que., Brett Hester's goal 9:03 into the third period stood as the winner as the Foreurs slipped by Rimouski.

Thierry Comtois and Connor Gagnon both scored in the first period for Val-d'Or (20-26-5).

Alexandre Mallet and Jonathan Lavoie had goals for the Oceanic (24-28-2).
