{allcanada} Elijah Wood, Donald Sutherland Head to Syfy's Treasure Island

Elijah Wood, Donald Sutherland and Eddie Izzard have been tapped to star in Syfy's Treasure Island.

Wood (The Lord of the Rings) will take the role of Ben Gunn; Sutherland (Dirty Sexy Money) will portray Capt. Flint, and Izzard (Across the Universe) will play Long John Silver. Toby Regbo, Phillip Glenister, Rupert Penry-Jones, David Harewood and Keith Allen will co-star.

"Treasure Island is one of the greatest tales in all of literature," RHI Entertainment's Robert Halmi Sr. said. "We have retained the adrenaline-charged atmosphere and action from the original work, while adding an edgier, darker tone that will resonate with contemporary audiences."

The two-part adaptation of the Robert Louis Stevenson classic is slated to premiere in 2012.
