CALGARY -- Nadine Chyz needed some late-game heroics to stay undefeated at the Canadian junior curling championships.
The Calgary skip scored one in the 10th end as Alberta narrowly defeated Prince Edward Island 5-4 in Wednesday's 10th draw.
Chyz improved to 9-0 with the win but had to fight for this one. She had a 3-1 lead after six ends, but P.E.I. skip Sarah Fullerton scored two in the seventh to tie the game. Chyz went up 4-3 after eight ends, but Fullerton came back with one in the ninth to set up the dramatic final end.
In men's action, Saskatchewan's Braeden Moskowy also improved to 9-0 after a 5-2 win over Newfoundland and Labrador's Colin Thomas.
Despite remaining unbeaten, neither of the leaders could widen the gap over their closest competitors.
Saskatchewan's Trish Paulsen (7-2) kept pace with Chyz with a 9-2 victory over Newfoundland's Erin Porter, while Ontario's Mat Camm was a 10-7 winner over Northern Ontario's Cody Johnston. Camm is also at 7-2.
In other women's action, Manitoba edged the Northwest Territories 6-4 to hold on to third place with a 6-3 record.
British Columbia dropped an extra-end 9-8 decision to Nova Scotia while Ontario lost 9-8 in an extra end to Northern Ontario.
Northern Ontario moved into a tie for fourth at 5-4 along with B.C., Ontario and idle New Brunswick.
In the other game, the Yukon hammered Quebec 12-2.
In men's action, Nova Scotia (6-3) moved into third with a 9-4 victory over B.C.
Newfoundland fell to fourth at 6-4, followed by Alberta, New Brunswick and Yukon, all at 5-4.
Alberta was a 7-6, extra-end winner over P.E.I., the Yukon beat Quebec 9-3, while New Brunswick had a bye.
The other match saw Manitoba rout the Northwest Territories 9-3.
