- some guys will be able to tell you how to manage S/PDIF. I actaully work analogue out from a  really good sounding soundcard - Xonar DX2 and use analogue amps - it guarantees me a great sound but yes more fiddle factor - although the HTPC can control most of the settings, The SPDIF plug is not normally green - this is headphones - it is normally denoted as digital out or similar

The remedies for that are:

- Directly connect your PC with a HD sound card to the receiver
- Find a Digital Media Player that can handle hi-res/mutlichannel
material.
- Convert the material to DVD-A and play on a stand-alone player.
