{allcanada} WHL: GIANTS ROUT SILVERTIPS IN FIGHT FILLED GAME

Six different players scored goals as the Vancouver Giants routed the Everett Silvertips 6-1 in an ill-tempered Western Hockey League game that featured nine fights, including a line brawl Friday night.

Teal Burns and Matt MacKay took advantage of shaky goaltending to give Vancouver (17-17-5) a 2-0 lead less than two minutes into the game.

The Giants built the lead to 5-0 late in the second period before the line brawl broke out following a boarding penalty on Everett's Manraj Hayer. Nine players were ejected.

Dalton Sward, Jordan Martinook, Spencer Bennett and Brendan Rowinski also scored for the Giants, who snapped a five-game losing streak.

Mark Segal played a strong game in goal for Vancouver, making 29 saves.

Tyler Maxwell scored the lone goal for Everett (16-17-5).

Luke Siemens stopped 10 of 13 shots in the first period before being yanked. Kent Simpson stopped 14 of 17 in relief.

Elsewhere in the WHL it was: Moose Jaw 4 Chilliwack 2; Edmonton 4 Brandon 2; Kootenay 5 Swift Current 3; Seattle 4 Portland 3 and Spokane at Tri-City (suspended).

Warriors 4 Bruins 2

At Chilliwack, B.C., Joey Kornelsen and Dylan Hood both had a goal and an assist as Moose Jaw topped the Bruins.

Jesse Paradis and Mackenzie Royer also scored for the Warriors (23-13-2), while Thomas Heemskerk made 19 saves to earn the win in net.

Steve Oursov and Ryan Howse replied for Chilliwack (17-16-3), while Lucas Gore stopped 20 shots for the Bruins.

Oil Kings 4 Wheat Kings 2

At Edmonton, Dylan Wruck scored back-to-back goals as the Oil Kings prevailed over Brandon.

Mike Piluso and Michael St. Croix also tallied for Edmonton (19-16-2). Jordan Hickmott assisted on both of Wruck's goals.

Eric Roy scored with 15 seconds left to play for the Wheat Kings (13-22-5). Captain Shayne Wiebe had the first goal of the game at the 6:16 mark of the first period.

Ice 5 Broncos 3

At Cranbrook, B.C., Kootenay forward Max Reinhart had a goal and two assists in win a over Swift Current.

Matt Fraser scored twice for the Ice (25-11-3), while Kevin King and Brayden McNabb added goals of their own.

Adam Lowry had a pair of goals for the Broncos (19-21-1), while Reece Scarlett added a single.

Thunderbirds 4 Winterhawks 3

At Portland, Ore., Luke Lockhart scored the game-winning goal with 3:33 left to play as Seattle edged the Winterhawks.

Travis Bobbee had a power-play goal for the Thunderbirds (16-13-7), while Charles Wells and Jacob Doty also scored.

Recently acquired Craig Cunningham provided the offence for Portland (25-12-3).

Chiefs at Americans

At Kennewick, Wash., the annual New Year's Eve game between Tri-City and Spokane was called 2:35 into the second period because of unsafe playing conditions.

The game will be rescheduled for a later date, but it could be as late as the first week in February.

The game was tied 1-1 when officials called the game. Kruise Reddick had Tri-City's goal, while Brady Brassart scored for Spokane.
