{allcanada} OHL: PARKS GETS SHUTOUT AS SPIRIT BEAT MAJORS

Mavric Parks made 33 saves to backstop the Saginaw Spirit to a 4-0 shutout over the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors in a highly-anticipated match between the Ontario Hockey League's top two teams on Sunday afternoon.

Josh Shalla scored a power-play goal and added two assists for Saginaw (25-8-4), while Jordan Szwarz recorded a goal and an assist.

Brandon Saad, with a goal on a 5-on-3 man advantage, and John McFarland rounded out the scoring. Ivan Telegin chipped in with two assists for the Spirit.

Parks, who leads the OHL with a .927 save percentage, played in his 11th straight game and earned his first shutout of the season.

His counterpart, Anthony Peters, stopped 18 shots for the Majors (29-6-1).

Saginaw scored twice on eight power-play opportunities while Mississauga failed to convert on eight chances against the league's best penalty killers.

The Spirit are four points ahead of the Owen Sound Attack in the OHL's Western Conference while the Majors hold a seven-point lead over the Ottawa 67's in the Eastern Conference.

Elsewhere in the OHL it was: Brampton 5 Sudbury 3 and Plymouth 6 Sault Ste. Marie 4.

Battalion 5 Wolves 3

At Brampton, Ont., Domenic Alberga and Ian Watters each had a goal and an assist as the surging Battalion defeated Sudbury.

Scott Tanksi had the eventual winner for Brampton (17-14-5), while Alex O'Neil and Barclay Goodrow also scored.

Andrey Kuchin, Eric O'Dell and Mike Lomas replied for the Wolves (11-24-2).

Whalers 6 Greyhounds 4

At Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., Robbie Czarnik had a hat trick and added two assists as Plymouth disposed of Sault Ste. Marie.

Tyler Brown and James Livingston also scored for the Whalers (19-16-2). Stefan Noesen added some insurance with an empty-net goal with 1:15 left to play in the game and also added two assists.

Vern Cooper's third-period goal tied the game for the Greyhounds (14-19-5) at 4-4 with 6:58 left in the game. Brett Findlay, Jake Carrick and David Quesnele rounded out Sault Ste. Marie's attack.
