MEDICINE HAT, Alta. -- Olympic champion Kevin Martin moved into a tie atop the standings with a victory in Draw 6 Thursday at the Canada Cup of Curling.

The Edmonton native doubled Mike McEwen 8-4 to improve his unbeaten record to 3-0 in Section A.

"I enjoyed that," Martin said. "I enjoy big games and that was a big game."

Martin joins Randy Ferbey (3-0), who moved atop the section earlier with a 7-2 romp over Mat Camm.

Previously unbeaten Kevin Koe (3-1) dropped to second in Section B after being beat by Jeff Stoughton 5-3 in Draw 6.

Stoughton, a two-time Brier winner and former world champion, followed with a 7-2 rout of Brent Bawel in Draw 7 to even his record at 2-2.

Bawel, who got his first win earlier in the day 9-1 over winless Rob Fowler, fell to 1-3.

Glenn Howard (3-0) remained atop Section B with a 10-3 win over Fowler (0-4) in Thursday's late draw. Howard scored five in the sixth end, and Fowler elected not to continue.

In the other Draw 7 men's game, Serge Reid (1-3) beat Camm 8-2.

Camm fell to 0-4.

Meanwhile, Shannon Kleibrink is 3-0 and atop Section A after an 11-5 Draw 6 victory over Stefanie Lawton (3-1), who dropped to second place.

"We feel rather charmed right now," said Kleibrink, a two-time Canada Cup champion who won her 16th straight match in top-flight competition.

Kleibrink had a free draw for three points after Lawton's hit-and-roll attempt facing two rocks failed.

"That fourth end tipped the scale. It gave us three out of nowhere. It was unfortunate for her. A total turning point. It could have been a totally different game."

Jennifer Jones is also 3-1 in Section A after an 11-3 rout of Krista McCarville in Draw 7.

Jones scored four in the first end, then laid six in the sixth end to put the game out of reach.

McCarville is in a three-way tie atop Section B at 2-1 with idle Cheryl Bernard and Amber Holland.

In the other Draw 7 match, Heather Nedohin (1-2) scored two in the 10th end in a 6-5 win over Kelly Scott (0-4).
