MEDICINE HAT, Alta. - Olympic silver medallist Cheryl Bernard beat Kelly Scott 6-3 in a successful start to the Canada Cup of Curling on Wednesday morning.
Bernard scored twice in the second end and once more in the third to take control of the Draw 1 match.
She joins Krista McCarville -- a 7-6, extra-end winner over Amber Holland -- atop Section B.
Jennifer Jones beat Chelsea Carey 8-6 to sit atop Section A with Shannon Kleibrink and Stefanie Lawton.
Kleibrink downed Heather Nedohin 8-4 while Lawton defeated Shelley Nichols 9-6.
The men were scheduled to play in the second draw, followed by another round for the women in the evening.
