The Edmonton Eskimos have reached out to the Calgary Stampeders to interview three of their coaches for their vacant head coaching role, sportsnet.ca has learned.
Eskimos general manager Eric Tillman confirmed to sportsnet.ca he contacted Stamps' general manager/head coach John Hufnagel on Monday and received permission to speak to offensive co-ordinator Dave Dickenson, defensive co-ordinator Chris Jones and running backs coach Rick Campbell, who has long ties to the Eskimos' staff. He has worked in a variety of roles for the Eskimos, but has never been a head coach. His father, Hugh, coached the Eskimos to five consecutive Grey Cup wins from 1978-82.
Tillman has already interviewed Saskatchewan defensive co-ordinator Kavis Reed, who is a longtime friend of his and someone he has worked with in Ottawa and Saskatchewan.
The Eskimos have a vacancy following a parting with Richie Hall, their coach of the last two years.
There is already vast speculation that Ticats' head coach Marcel Bellefeuille is planning to significantly overhaul his coaching staff after the team failed to live up to expectations this year. The club placed second in the East in the regular season, but suffered an upset loss to Toronto. The contracts of all of the Ticats' coaches aside from Bellefeuille end in December.
The Argos and general manager Adam Rita will be parting ways. Rita rejected an offer by head coach to become the team's offensive co-ordinator. Barker will be named the team's general manager any day now. He was the de facto GM this year, making all key persoonel moves. Rita may surface with another team or possibly in the Canadian college ranks.
