It has been chaos for Canadians keen to keep up with the Kardashians.
But CTV is solving that dilemma with the launch of E! - or rather, the re-launch of E! in Canada - on Monday, Nov. 29.
E! is a cable channel in the United States that specializes in celeb-reality and entertainment-talk programming. Its mainstays include Keeping Up With The Kardashians and its spinoff Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami, Chelsea Lately, E! News, The Soup, Kendra, Fashion Police and Bridalplasty.
Canwest launched its version of E! in Canada back in 2007, taking over the CH stations. However, Canwest's Canadian E! was an odd combination of U.S. E! programming in non-peak hours and mostly traditional programming from major U.S. broadcast networks in primetime.
Add to that the financial pressures faced by Canwest - which more recently has been purchased by Shaw - and E!'s first foray north of the border was a formidable flop.
But CTV's attitude seems to be, if at first E! doesn't succeed, try, try again.
Launch day for CTV's Canadian E! will feature day-and-date-with-its-American-counterpart airings of E! News and Chelsea Lately, the late-night talk show with comedian Chelsea Handler. Then throughout the first week, E! presents a tease of its schedule with catchup sneak peeks of its best-known shows.
The first week wraps up with a three-day marathon of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. That, of course, is the series that made the hottest sister, Kim Kardashian, famous for being famous.
E! settles into its regular schedule in its second week with the premieres of Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami (Dec. 5), Kendra (Dec. 7), True Hollywood Story (Dec. 8), The Soup (Dec. 10), Fashion Police (Dec. 10), Married to Rock (Dec. 12) and Bridalplasty (Dec. 12).
Across Canada, E! replaces the channel formerly known as Star!.
