{allcanada} WHL: MITCHELL LEADS PATS OVER BLADES

Garrett Mitchell had a goal and an assist to help the Regina Pats beat the Saskatoon Blades 5-2 in the Western Hockey League on Tuesday night.

Jordan Weal, Thomas Frazee, Carter Ashton and Colin Reddin also chipped in with a goal and an assist each for Regina (5-7-2).

Scoring for Saskatoon were Marek Viednesky and Darian Dziurzynski, both with their 10th of the year.

Elsewhere in the WHL it was: Kootenay 3 Medicine Hat 2; Brandon 3 Kelowna 1; and Tri-City 5 Seattle 4 (SO).

At Regina, the Blades (10-3-0) came into the game atop the Eastern Conference while Regina sat near the bottom in ninth place.

Regina also hit the ice with one of the league's worst power plays and Saskatoon one of the best.

But it was the Pats who went 3 for 7 on the power play and the Blades who were shut out on four extra-man opportunities.

Viednesky opened the scoring for Saskatoon midway through the first and Dziurzynski closed it out midway through the third.

In between it was all Regina as the Pats struck for five straight goals.

Picking up the win for Regina while making 33 stops was Damien Ketlo.

Adam Morrison took the loss for the Blades after turning away 28 shots.

At Medicine Hat, Alta., Joe Antilla scored twice as Kootenay edged the Tigers.

At Kelowna, B.C., Mark Stone and Shayne Wiebe each had a goal and an assist as Brandon beat the Rockets.

Americans 5 Thunderbirds 4 (SO)

At Kent, Wash., Justin Feser scored the shootout winner as Tri-City defeated Seattle.
