LOS ANGELES - Seann William Scott and Jay Baruchel are lacing up their skates for "Goon," an indie hockey comedy. Alison Pill and Marc-Andre Grondin also are jumping onto the ice for the movie, which begins shooting in Winnipeg mid-October with Michael Dowse behind the camera.

Baruchel and Evan Goldberg, the frequent collaborator of Seth Rogen, wrote the script, inspired by the book "Goon: The True Story of an Unlikely Journey into Minor League Hockey," by Doug Smith and Adam Frattasio.

"Goon" centers on Doug Glatt, a bouncer (Scott) who has been touched by the fist of God. Upon discovering both his right hook and skates, he joins a downtrodden hockey team and inspires them to new heights. Baruchel is Glatt's best friend. Pill plays the female lead role, and Grondin plays a French-Canadian star hockey player.

Scott last starred opposite Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan in Kevin Smith's "Cop Out." Baruchel, repped by CAA and Thruline, starred in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and voiced the lead character in the animated film "How to Train Your Dragon."

Pill was seen in "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" and also appeared in "The Pillars of the Earth" miniseries. Grondin is best known for starring in the Canadian movie "C.R.A.Z.Y."
