The Vancouver Canucks have parted ways with Brendan Morrison after the club released him from his professional tryout contract on Sunday.
The 35-year-old Pitt Meadows, B.C. native, an unrestricted free agent, is now free to explore other options after the two sides couldn't come to terms. The Canucks reportedly tried to offer a two-way contract that Morrison and his agent turned down.
His agent, Kurt Overhardt, says two teams in the Eastern Conference and one in the Western Conference are interested his his services and more inquiries are coming in. Toronto general manager Brian Burke confirmed to TSN that the Maple Leafs are not one of those teams.
A former-Canuck, Morrison registered one assist in four preseason games. He earned $1.5-million last season with the Washington Capitals and had 12 goals and 30 assists in 74 games, his highest point total since the 2005-06 season with Vancouver.
Morrison had 393 points in 543 games in Vancouver, where he centred Todd Bertuzzi and Markus Naslund for four seasons. But he was slowed by a torn ACL late in 2008 and split the following season between Anaheim and Dallas before being signed by Washington.
