Chris Bosh told a Toronto radio station on Friday that his most recent comments about why he left the Raptors were taken out of context.
In an interview with The FAN 590, the five-time NBA All-Star denied that it was his desire for national television exposure in the United States that helped fuel his move south.
"Yeah, I said that," Bosh told The FAN. "But it wasn't in the context of why I made my decision [to leave Toronto for Miami in the off-season]."
"At no time did I refer to that as my quote-unquote bottom line or reason for making the decision I made," Bosh said.
Bosh had been quoted in an interview with the Toronto Star prior to the Heat's season opener against the Celtics this past Tuesday as saying: "Really, it's all about being on TV at the end of the day. Seriously. A guy can average 20 [points] and 10 [rebounds], and nobody really cares. If you don't see it, then it doesn't really happen."
The franchise's all-time leading scorer said the statement was part of a conversation about how some players are perceived better than other players due to the fact that their games are constantly being broadcast nationally in the United States.
Bosh added that he didn't make much of his comments until he was contacted by his agent and talked to some friends in Toronto. He said it was important to clarify his statements.
"I'll do (interviews) as many times as I need to," Bosh told The FAN. "Your name is all you have, and I don't want that to be associated with me."
Asked directly to explain why he left, Bosh said "it was to put myself in the best position to win championships.
"It wasn't about money, it wasn't about being famous, it wasn't about any of those things."
Bosh will play his first game against his former franchise November 13th in Miami. The Heat visit Toronto twice this year, first on February 16th and then again April 13th.
