Moncton, NB – After another exciting quarter-final event, Kent Wingert of St. Catharines, Ontario booked his place in the Wendy's Kick for a Million semi-final at Hamilton's Ivor Wynne Stadium on October 8.
Wingert will face off against Western Canada semi-finalist Darrell Roach of Viscount, Saskatchewan for a chance to kick for $1 million in TSN and Wendy's sixth annual international award-winning million-dollar giveaway.
Wingert defeated Francis Cottenie of Gads Hill, Ontario in the Eastern Canada quarter-final at Moncton Stadium earlier today during halftime of the Scotiabank Touchdown Atlantic game featuring the Edmonton Eskimos facing the Toronto Argonauts.
Wingert joins fellow semi-finalist Roach who defeated Lonnie Lepitzki of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan in Friday night's Western Canada quarter-final during halftime of the B.C. Lions and Calgary Stampeders' game at McMahon Stadium. Highlights and results of both quarter-final events are available on-demand at TSN.ca.
Wingert defeated Cottenie by a final score of 50 to 40 to advance to the next round. Both participants were given four kicks from distances of their choice, ranging from 15 to 50 yards and were awarded points equal to the distance (15 yards = 15 points) for each successful field goal, with their final kick being a Wendy's Classic Double and worth double the points.
Cottenie kicked off the competition by making a field goal from 20 yards, while Wingert scored on his first kick from 25 yards. Cottenie and Wingert then missed on their second field goal attempts, but scored from 20 and 25 yards, respectively, on their third kicks. Cottenie went back to the 25 yard line for his final field goal attempt and was short, allowing Wingert to move on to the Wendy's Kick for a Million semi-final.
On October 8th, Wingert and Roach will go head-to-head in the Wendy's Kick for a Million semi-final during halftime of the Edmonton Eskimos and Hamilton Tiger-Cats game (CFL ON TSN coverage begins at 7:30pm et). Following the same event format as the quarter-finals, the participant who scores the most points after four kicks advances to the final in Toronto on October 15th with the chance to kick a 50-yard field goal for $1 million.
Highlights of the semi-final will air during the second half of the game and will also be available on-demand at TSN.ca.
