Jessyko Bernard scored the lone goal in the shootout as the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies edged the Lewiston Maineiacs 5-4 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League play Wednesday night.
Bernard's goal against Maineiacs goaltender Nicholas Champion held up when three Lewiston shooters failed to score.
Bernard, Jason Kelly, Alexis Bernier and Robbie DeFulviis each scored in regulation for the Huskies (3-4-0).
Samuel Henley, Christophe Lalonde, Antoine Houde-Caron and Cole Hawes had one apiece for Lewiston (2-3-2).
Elsewhere in the QMJHL, Moncton shut out Cape Breton 2-0.
At Rouyn-Noranda, Que., Bernard opened the scoring just over five minutes in the first period with a short-handed goal.
Lewiston's Henley struck back on the power play but Huskies defenceman Kelly scored to make it 2-1 at the end of the first.
The Maineiacs scored three unanswered goals to start the second period. Lalonde, Houde-Caron and Hawes each tallied to give Lewiston a 4-2 lead.
But Bernier's goal at 12:54 in the second pulled Rouyn-Noranda within one, and DeFulviis tied the game at four just 57 seconds into the third to set up the shootout.
Mickael Audette made 22 saves for the Huskies, while at the other end Champion stopped 24 shots.
Wildcats 2, Screaming Eagles 0
At Moncton, Wildcats goaltender Shane Owen earned the shutout with 31 saves against the Screaming Eagles.
After two scoreless periods, Jordan Carroll and Allain Saulnier each scored for Moncton (5-2-1).
Francois Lacerte stopped 19 shots for Cape Breton (2-5-0).
