Says who? You realize the DVD-As you listen to are already compressed
with MLP? Ever heard of FLAC? All you are getting off a shiny disc
(whether it's CD or DVD-A) is bytes, and those sound the same whether
they come from an optical pickup or a memory card, ceteris parabus. A
lot of us here are going the file route and ripping our DVD-As for the
convenience without sacrificing quality.
And what would be wrong with combining the convenience of an iPod with
the sonics of high-resolution material? Personal this is what I'm
clamoring for.
Unfortunately the car, any car, is a noisy environment. I do feel the
car is a perfect surround system environment (speakers in front and in
back) and I'm eager to see surround evolve in that environment. It's
easy to appreciate surround in an automobile, and harder to appreciate
high-resolution sound. I'd still rather have both.
