trivial comments, though I probably should. The initial question
relates to car audio; which has to beconvenient and safe to use.
For the record, I have a two year old Honda CRV with Alpine audio, and
my Ford Focus which is now three years old. And for the record I play
both DVD-A and SACD, but personally prefer to play DTS/Flac versions
over my network at home, but with two kids running around I compromise
for convenience. What is tedious about having to turn on more gadgets
than is required? I am talking about convenience and quality, and
possibly some compromise for the car. You, sadly, are reacting like
HiFi purists of the 80s who could hear the sonic difference when they
changed the power plug, or who can clearly hear the difference when
they now use gold plated optical leads (yes I know they wouldn't).
How can you possibly say that a memory card can't come close to the hi-
res qualities of a spinning plastic disc? The SD card is the medium
and has no 'tonal' qualities to add or remove; just like the plastic
thing, it simply holds files. That's an absurd thing to say! Not
that slagging off an ipod is much better.
I'm not saying you can't play your dvd-a in your car. I'm saying I
have no desire for a spinning disc, and that the future has to be file
based, and probably memory card based. What I need in a car is
definitely not the same as what I want at home. I want a balance
between cost and quality, and I'm certainly not going to bother about
spacial awareness differences as I spend an hour doing 70mph plus on
the motorway (I'm supposed to be concentrating on the road). I want
to play ripped versions of my SACD, DVD-A in the car, and I take
advantage of the kind folk with the gear, time, and effort who extract
sacd for the likes of me.
Lastly... Whilst I havn't posted here before yesterday, I have been
subscribed to the group for a long, long time and have taken note of
some threads. Some progressive, some lame but everyone has some good
points to learn from. I've even learned from this thread, and have
added it to my list of things to do. If you feel the group ONLY has
room for true audiopiles then please just say so and I'll look for
another forum to monitor. Remember this thread was about car
audio...... and oppinion. Mine is still for surround based on
memory cards.
