Hi
The issue of degraded audio reproduction when playing a DVD with active video information, is more to do with the design of the player rather than the disc itself.
The issues are:
Poor power supply design
Poor decoupling of the supplies feeding the various stages
Poor layout and internal shielding
Low quality IC's used in the audio output stages
All of these issues contribute to noise generated by the video processing sections leaking into the audio stages and reducing audio quality. Some DVD-A manufactures are aware of this issue (like Denon) and allow the video processing stages to be turned off for "Audio only" reproduction.
By removing the menu part of the DVD-A and generating just a black screen will help reduce the video noise generated in players that don't have this option, thereby improving audio reproduction.
Hope this is of some help

Could someone please explain : How does including video on a burned DVD-Audio disc reduce audio quality ? --
