{allcanada} QUALIFYING: Kennington On Saskatoon Pole

Saskatoon, Sask., Canada – DJ Kennington set a track record at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway on Wednesday in winning his third pole of the season and the sixth of his career in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1.

The St. Thomas, Ont., driver turned in a lap of 14.824 seconds (80.869 mph) around the .333-mile oval - wiping out the previous mark set of 14.949 set by Don Thomas Jr., in last year's inaugural series visit to the Saskatoon track.

Kennington, who paced the field earlier in the day during practice for the Velocity Prarie Thunder, was followed in qualifying by Thomson who with a lap of 14.870 seconds was also under his old record.

Scott Steckly was third quickest, followed by Ron Beauchamp Jr., and Kerry Micks. Rounding out the top 10 are Jason Hathaway, Derek White, John Gaunt, Mark Dilley and local driver Nathan Weenk.

JR Fitzpatrick, who holds a six-point edge over Kennington in the championship standings coming into the event, was 14th quickest in qualifying.

The green flag for the Velocity Prarie Thunder is set for 7:30 p.m. MT.
