The Montreal Alouettes appear to be in the process of tinkering with their roster.
The Montreal Gazette is reporting that the Als have released veteran defensive back Stanford Samuels and receiver O.J. Santiago.
Samuels name was removed from the team's practice roster on Friday while Santiago was deleted from the active roster on Sunday according to the CFL transaction wire.
Samuels signed as a free agent with the Alouettes in 2009 and started the season opener against the Roughriders before being placed on the reserve roster. Meanwhile Santiago who joined the Als this past off-season, dressed for the team's past four games, seeing the majority of action on special teams.
The Gazette speculates that Santiago was released before he achieved veteran status so that they would not be stuck paying his entire salary should he be injured or released later in the season.
