Saddened by the absence of nominee Martin Short from Sunday's Emmy Awards, friends spoke of the actor's talent, love and "extraordinary" 30-year marriage to Nancy Dolman, who died last week.
"Marty is an amazing actor, and that's the least of his talents," Catherine O'Hara, an old friend and comedy colleague of Short's, told ET Canada. "He's such a beautiful, beautiful person. I love him so much, and I love his family, and I'm sorry he can't be here tonight."
She added: "I think you all know how funny he is. He's just such a wise old soul, and in any situation in life, he's the model of how to be. Even now."
Glenn Close, the star of the FX drama Damages, for which Short was nominated in the supporting-actor category, remarked on the Saturday Night Live alum's underrated skill as a serious actor.
"He can pull off very, very complex emotions, and he was magnificent [on Damages]," she said. "I loved watching him work. And the fact that he's known as this genius comic made it even better."
Close said she didn't know Short's wife Nancy, but knew they shared a special bond. "Talking to Marty, which we did a lot on the set, they had an extraordinary marriage," Close said. "I think 30 years and [it was] a great partnership and friendship on top of everything else."
Short, 60, won an Emmy in the early 1980s for his sketch-comedy writing for SCTV. On Sunday, he was beaten out by Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul for the drama supporting-actor award.
