Canada won a lot of gold at the Vancouver Olympics, and CTV's coverage of those Winter Games got an additional silver medal on Tuesday when the 2010 Gemini Awards nominations were announced.
Olympic-related coverage garnered 13 Gemini nominations for CTV. But the gold medal for nominations went to one of CTV's scripted shows, the cop drama Flashpoint, which led the way with 15 nominations after dominating the Geminis a year ago, too.
The science-fiction series Stargate Universe, which airs in Canada on CTV-owned Space, tied for third place with nine nominations.
Also getting nine nods were a pair of CBC mini-series - Guns and The Summit - as well as the medical drama Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures, which aired on HBO Canada.
The Geminis, which are in their 25th year, usually aren't shy about nominating new and offbeat series.
This year's surprise in the best comedy category is Pure Pwnage (pronounced Pure Ownage), which aired on Showcase. Another newcomer is CTV's Dan For Mayor, starring Fred Ewanuick.
Pure Pwnage and Dan For Mayor were nominated alongside comedy veterans Little Mosque on the Prairie (CBC), Rick Mercer Report (CBC) and Less Than Kind (HBO Canada).
The afore-mentioned Flashpoint and Stargate Universe were nominated for best drama, as were rookie Republic of Doyle (CBC) and veterans The Tudors (CBC) and Durham County (The Movie Network/Movie Central).
The main Geminis ceremony takes place in Toronto on Nov. 13 and will be televised on Global and Showcase.
