speed depends as much on the file host's up speed as it does on the
receiver's down speed.
So any thing that can be done to speed up downloads by making them
independent of the upper's speed would be a general improvement, but
this would mean a very radical change to the way the hub is at the
moment. FTP server or whatever, wherever, would mean that we all would
have to FTP into the server or website to 'UP' our contributions.
This is might be problematical:
1) Not all hubbers (future hubbers) are used to doing FTP or whatever
uploads.
2) If we have 50 or more individuals wanting to get into the server to
'UP' their files 27/7/365 that seems like asking for bottlenecks
and all kinds of issues.
3) It will be a big change from the way things work now
4) We could lose much of the community spirit that to me is very
precious.
5) All files would be on this remote server and no longer 'shares' on
individual's HDD's.
An immediate fix to the problem of where / how to host the hub would
seem to be to keep it where it is and contribute a bit towards it's
cost.
THEN over the next however-long-it-takes we can discuss and decide
what changes to make and how to implement those changes.
A dedicated website on the darknet might be the best option, but then
we have to consider bandwidth costs etc..
With the current political climate re sharing we might be better to
keep a low profile rather than promote ourselves as we have done so
far. i e via Google.
