The search is on for a Toronto stadium to host the showcase track and field events for the 2015 Pan Am Games after organizers scrapped plans to hold them in Hamilton.
Pan Am organizers made the decision after much debate in Hamilton between city hall and the CFL's Tiger-Cats over where a new purpose-built stadium would be located. The two parties were initially given an Aug. 12 deadline to come to an agreement, but a Pan Am chief executive confirmed on Thursday that there will be a change of location.
York University and Downsview are considered leading candidates to host the events in Toronto, but organizers are looking for a venue that holds at least 15,000 fans. Building a new stadium in the Greater Toronto Area close to mass transit also remains a possibility.
