Rock music fans have a new station on the Winnipeg dial — at the expense of country music fans.
As of 1 a.m. Tuesday, country station Hank FM, at 100.7 on the dial, switched to K-Rock 100.7.
But unlike Hank, as well as the other rock stations currently on the air in Winnipeg, K-Rock's morning crew is not based out of the city.
The edgy and uncensored Bob & Tom Show will fill the morning time slot. It is a syndicated program from Indianapolis, Indiana.
The show is a comedy-variety show with guests, live or pre-recorded comic songs and skits. There is also a slate of characters voiced by various members of the show's staff.
The show airs from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m.
For the remainder of the day, K-Rock will feature classic rock, blues, and "music from historic artists like Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Steve Earle, and other artists who helped change the world with their message," states a news release from Newcap Broadcasting Corporation, which owns the station.
Newcap, headquartered in Newfoundland and Labrador, also owned Hank FM. It switched formats in the wake of poor ratings with the country playlist.
The new station will continue to operate out of the former Hank location on Corydon Avenue.
"We are very proud to be Winnipeg's newest home of the best rock that has ever been recorded," general manager Randy Skulsky stated in the release.
"It's an eclectic mix that has never been heard in our great city before. It is exciting to give the listeners of Winnipeg, truly a celebration of world class rock."
