A lake in Manitoba will be named after homegrown National Hockey League champion Jonathan Toews, the provincial government announced Wednesday.

Toews, who is from Winnipeg, will be told where the lake is on Sunday when he'll be in the city to show off the Stanley Cup he won with the Chicago Blackhawks this season.

A dedication ceremony and parade is planned for that day, starting at the City Hall courtyard on Main Street at 11 a.m.

A parade will follow at 1 p.m. starting at École Christine-Lespérance on John Forsythe Road in South St. Vital and will wind its way to the Dakota Community Centre on Dakota Street for more festivities at 2 p.m.

Provincial officials aren't saying yet where the lake is located but said it is currently unnamed and is not man-made.

Aside from winning the Stanley Cup as captain of the Blackhawks, in the last year, Toews also helped Canada's national hockey team win Olympic gold at the Vancouver Games. He was also awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the NHL's most valuable player in the playoffs this past season.
