Darryl Sutter has a reputation for sticking with what he knows, and the Flames GM gave more evidence for that on Thursday, signing two former players to contracts in the red and gold. Forwards Alex Tanguay and Olli Jokinen are both destined for Cowtown once again. The Jokinen deal is still being finalized.
Tanguay signed a one-year, $1.7 million deal, while Jokinen is set to ink a two-year, $6 million deal.
Tanguay, a 30-year-old Quebec native, spent last season with the Tampa Bay Lightning, putting up 10 goals and 27 assists in 80 games.
Tanguay previously spent two seasons in Calgary, putting up 22 goals and 59 assists with the team in 2006-07, an 81-point season that was his most successful campaign in the NHL.
Tanguay was originally selected by the Colorado Avalanche 12th overall in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
Jokinen, meanwhile, is headed back to the same place he started the 2009-10 season.
The 31-year old Finn split time between the Flames and New York Rangers last season, scoring 15 goals and adding 35 assists in 82 games. He also helped Finland capture the bronze medal this past February at the Winter Olympics.
Originally selected third overall by the Los Angeles Kings in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Jokinen has 252 goals and 316 assists in 881 career games split between the Kings, Islanders, Panthers, Coyotes, Flames and Rangers.
