DENVER (AP) Nathan MacKinnon scored two more goals and Gabriel Landeskog had two assists, leading the Colorado Avalanche to a 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night.

Brock Nelson also scored as Colorado improved to 12-0-1 in its last 13 games. Mackenzie Blackwood made 11 saves after Scott Wedgewood departed in the second period with an upper-body injury.

Vancouver lost for the sixth time in seven games. Linus Karlsson scored for the Canucks, and Kevin Lankinen stopped 28 shots.

MacKinnon poked home a rebound with 37 seconds left in the first, tying it at 1. He converted a one-timer off a Landeskog pass late in the second, giving Colorado a 3-1 lead.

The 30-year-old MacKinnon has eight goals and five assists in his last seven games. He leads the NHL with 22 goals on the season.

The Canucks begin a four-game homestand on Friday night against Utah. The Avalanche open a four-game trip on Thursday night against the New York Islanders.

{allcanada} Wallstedt earns 4th shutout of the season as Wild beat Oilers 1-0

banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) Jesper Wallstedt made 33 saves to record his fourth shutout of the season in just 10 games as the Minnesota Wild carried their torrid pace from last month into December, emerging with a 1-0 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday.

Jonas Brodin scored the lone goal for the Wild, who have achieved at least a point in 12 straight games. The Wild went 11-1-2 in November.

The Oilers have lost five of their last seven. Stuart Skinner recorded 23 stops for the Oilers.

Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov had his goal-scoring streak snapped at five straight games and his points streak ended at seven games, during which he had notched seven goals and two assists.

It was a bad night for Edmonton streaks as well, as forward Leon Draisaitl had his points streak halted at eight games, with five goals and eight assists during that span.

Minnesota got the game's only goal with seven minutes remaining in the opening period as Skinner whiffed with his glove hand on a point blast from Brodin off the draw, his third of the season.

Wallstedt, who was drafted 20th overall in the 2021 NHL draft after Edmonton traded the selection to the Wild and dropped two spots, was named the NHL's rookie of the month for November on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old Swede was incredible last month with a 6-0-0 record, a league-best 1.14 goals-against average, .967 save percentage and three shutouts in six games. Wallstedt entered the game boasting a 7-0-2 record with a league-leading .938 save percentage and 1.93 goals-against average.

Both teams play Thursday night. The Wild visit the Calgary Flames, and the Oilers host the Seattle Kraken.

banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

TORONTO — Scottie Barnes scored 28 points — including 13 in the second quarter — as the Toronto Raptors held off the Portland Trail Blazers 121-118 on Tuesday.

Barnes, who was named the NBA Eastern Conference's defensive player of the month before the game, also had seven rebounds, seven assists, and two blocks.

Immanuel Quickley added 23 points with eight assists as Toronto (15-7) ended a modest two-game losing skid.

Reserve forward Gradey Dick had 14 points for the Raptors.

Deni Avdija had a double-double with 25 points and 14 assists as Portland (8-13) dropped its third straight. He also pulled down eight boards.

Toumani Camara added 21 points and seven rebounds while Shaedon Sharpe of London, Ont., came off the bench with 23 points.

RJ Barrett of Mississauga, Ont., remained out for the Raptors with a sprained right knee. The swingman has been out since landing awkwardly after a dunk in Toronto's 119-109 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Nov. 23.

"RJ is improving," said Raptors head coach Darko Rajakovic pre-game. "He's still not taking any participation in team activities. He's recovering and improving."

Takeaways

Blazers: A well-rounded attack saw five of Portland's players reaching double digits in points, but the visitors were still overwhelmed for long stretches of the game. The Blazers especially struggled in the paint, getting outscored 64-50 by Toronto's bigs.

Raptors: Toronto's NBA-best fast-break attack was once again dominant, earning 25 points to Portland's 10. The Raptors entered the game averaging 20.2 fast-break points per game, 0.7 ahead of the Miami Heat. The Trail Blazers tied with the Houston Rockets for 15th in the league with 14.8 per game before Tuesday's tipoff.

Key moment

Quickley drilled a three within the first minute of the second quarter that tied the game 40-40. That sparked a dominant 16-3 Raptors run that gave them a 10-point lead.

Key stat

Quickley was 5-for-6 (83.3 per cent) from three-point range, making nearly half of Toronto's shots from beyond the arc. He hasn't attempted fewer than six three-pointers in any of his last 14 games.

Up next

Portland: Travels to Cleveland to face the Cavaliers (13-9) on Wednesday.

Toronto: Hosts the Los Angeles Lakers (15-5) on Thursday.

{allcanada} Schaefer and Wiesblatt's first NHL goals lead Predators over Flames 5-1

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Reid Schaefer and Ozzy Wiesblatt each scored their first NHL goal, Juuse Saros made 27 saves and the Nashville Predators defeated the Calgary Flames 5-1 on Tuesday night.

Michael Bunting had a goal and an assist, Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault also scored, and Nicolas Hague had a pair of assists for the Predators, winners of three of four.

Morgan Frost scored and Devin Cooley and Dustin Wolf combined for 23 saves for Calgary, which concluded a five-game road trip 2-2-1.

Schaefer scored the game's first goal at 6:24 of the opening period.

Parked just outside the crease, Shaefer collected a loose puck and slid it past Cooley for his first goal, playing in his third NHL game.

Saros' best stop came on a breakaway by Jonathan Huberdeau with 3:45 remaining in the first. Huberdeau forced a neutral zone turnover from Hague and then skated in all alone on Saros, who denied Huberdeau's backhand with a sprawling left pad save.

Stamkos made it 2-0 at 5:04 of the second.

After taking a pass from Ryan O'Reilly, Luke Evangelista carried the puck behind the Calgary net and found Stamkos on the doorstep. The goal was the 1,200th point of Stamkos' career, becoming the 53rd player in NHL history to reach that mark.

Marchessault extended the Nashville lead to 3-0 with 5:35 left in the second and Wiesblatt followed 1:07 later, scoring his first career NHL goal on a tap in off of a Bunting pass. Tuesday was NHL game number 28 for Wiesblatt, a Calgary native.

Cooley made 12 saves before being replaced by Wolf at the start of the third.

Bunting scored the only goal against Wolf, who made 11 saves.

Frost spoiled Saros' shutout bid with a power-play goal 13:39 of the third.

Flames host the Minnesota Wild on Thursday.

Predators visit the Florida Panthers on Thursday.

{allcanada} Maple Leafs jump out to quick lead, hold off Panthers for 4-1 win

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) Troy Stecher and Scott Laughton both got their first goals of the season, Dakota Joshua added a goal and an assist, and the Toronto Maple Leafs topped the Florida Panthers 4-1 on Tuesday night.

Bobby McMann had two assists for the Leafs, who have won three of their last four, and John Tavares added an empty-netter with 18.6 seconds left.

Sam Reinhart got his 14th of the season, a short-handed score in the second period for Florida. But Laughton scored with 7:42 left to restore the two-goal edge for the Leafs.

Florida has lost four of its last five, and four straight at home.

It was the first Florida-Toronto game since the second round of last season's playoffs, a series where the Maple Leafs took the first two games and held leads of 2-0 and 3-1 in Game 3 - before losing that game on a goal by Brad Marchand in overtime. Florida would roll to wins in Games 5 and 7 in Toronto, both by 6-1 scores, and went on to capture its second consecutive Stanley Cup.

But this Florida roster looked a whole lot different than the one last spring did.

The Panthers were again without their long-term injured players - Aleksander Barkov, Matthew Tkachuk, Dmitry Kulikov, Eetu Luostarinen and Tomas Nosek among them - plus were without forward Carter Verhaeghe, who missed the game because he and his wife were expecting a baby.

It meant Florida added Jack Studnicka to its fourth line. Studnicka was making his Panthers debut and playing an NHL game for the first time since April 2024.

Maple Leafs: Visit Carolina on Thursday, the end of a six-game road trip.

Panthers: Host Nashville on Thursday, the fourth game of a six-game homestand.

MONTREAL (AP) Brady Tkachuk and Fabian Zetterlund had a goal and an assist each as the Ottawa Senators defeated the Montreal Canadiens 5-2 in a heavy-hitting game between two Atlantic Division rivals Tuesday night.

Drake Batherson, Jake Sanderson and Artem Zub also scored as Ottawa snapped a two-game skid to end a season-long seven-game road trip.

Jordan Spence and Tyler Kleven provided two assists apiece, and Linus Ullmark stopped 19 shots.

Nick Suzuki and Juraj Slafkovsky scored power-play goals for Montreal, which lost its second straight. Sam Montembeault made 24 saves.

The Senators led 2-1 after the first period. Slafkovsky opened the scoring at 3:37, but Zetterlund replied 24 seconds later with a one-timer from distance.

Sanderson and Batherson pushed Ottawa's lead to 4-1 with goals one minute apart in the second.

Suzuki cut into the lead at 8:50 with a wrist shot through Ullmark. Tkachuk then made it 5-2 during a delayed penalty with 7:17 left in the game, taunting the crowd after the goal.

Senators journeyman David Perron picked up an assist in his 1,200th game, making stops in St. Louis (three times), Edmonton, Pittsburgh, Anaheim, Vegas, Detroit and Ottawa. The 37-year-old from Quebec has 322 career goals and 474 assists.

The Senators begin a three-game homestand on Thursday night against the New York Rangers. The Canadiens play again on Wednesday night, hosting the Winnipeg Jets.

{allcanada} NHL player-turned-coach Kevin Dineen reveals he has pancreatic cancer

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

Longtime NHL player-turned-coach Kevin Dineen says he has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Dineen, who is 62, posted a message on social media over the weekend revealing the diagnosis.

"This Thanksgiving feels a bit different," Dineen wrote on social media. "It has put a lot into perspective, most of all how lucky I am to be surrounded by so many supportive family and friends."

A feisty winger during his playing days, Dineen skated in over 1,200 regular-season and playoff games with the Hartford Whalers/Carolina Hurricanes, Philadelphia Flyers, Ottawa Senators and Columbus Blue Jackets during an eras-spanning career from 1984-2002.

After a short stint scouting and working in management, he spent the next two decades behind hockey benches, including two-plus seasons as head coach of the Florida Panthers from 2011-13. He coached Canada's women's team to an Olympic gold medal in Sochi in 2014 after being a late replacement pick for the job.

Dineen has his name on the Stanley Cup as an assistant with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2015. He had most recently coached the San Diego Gulls and the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League.

"I wanted to share my news because hockey has taught me that no fight is faced alone," Dineen wrote. "For anyone out there battling something heavy — whether it's cancer or another fight entirely — I want you to know you are not alone."

{allcanada} Steinauer declines head coach interview request from Argos; Mace staying with Riders

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

As the Toronto Argonauts' search for a new head coach continues, TSN's Dave Naylor reports Hamilton Tiger-Cats president of football operations Orlondo Steinauer and Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach Corey Mace will not be candidates to fill the vacancy.

Naylor reported Monday that Steinauer recently declined an invitation from the Argos to interview for the head coaching job, while Mace, who is fresh off winning the 112th Grey Cup with the Roughriders, has communicated to the Argos that he's not leaving Saskatchewan.

The 52-year-old Steinauer, who played and coached for the Argos in the past, has been with the Ticats since 2018 and served as the head coach from 2019 to 2023 before focusing on front office duties.

Mace, 39, just completed his second season as coach of the Riders after serving as Toronto's defensive coordinator for two seasons, winning the Grey Cup in 2022.

The Argonauts are in need of a head coach after Ryan Dinwiddie left the franchise to join the Ottawa Redblacks as their head coach and general manager.

Toronto finished with a 5-13 record in 2025, the first time they missed the playoffs in Dinwiddie's five years with the team.

Argonauts co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Kevin Eiben, quarterback coach Mike Miller, and receivers coach Pete Costanza all interviewed for the team's vacant head coaching position last week.

The Argos gave permission to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to speak to Miller about their offensive coordinator position.

The Argonauts also showed interest in Mike O'Shea, but the former Argos linebacker and defensive coordinator is staying with the Bombers.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed American quarterback Bryce Perkins to a futures contract on Tuesday.

Perkins spent three seasons in the NFL (2021-22, 2025), winning a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021. He started one game in 2022 against the Kansas City Chiefs, going for 13-for-23, threw one touchdown and rushed nine times for 44 yards in a 26-10 loss.

He signed with the Carolina Panthers on Aug. 18 but was released a week later.

The BC Lions announced that a pair of games will be played at the Save-on-Foods Field at the Apple Bowl this season as part of Touchdown Kelowna.

The two-game set will welcome the Calgary Stampeders as opponents in Week 4 on Saturday, June 27, followed by the Edmonton Elks as visitors the following Saturday on July 4.

The series is necessitated by the use of BC Place for seven games of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In 2024, the Lions played one game in Victoria, BC as part of Touchdown Pacific.

"Playing in Kelowna and the Okanagan is an incredible opportunity to showcase the CFL experience and strengthen our connection with these communities," CFL commissioner Stewart Johnston said in a release. "These will be must-see events in one of the most stunning regions in the country. The Lions continue to show that they are truly BC's team through their tremendous efforts to engage fans across the province."

The Lions rolled to a resounding 38-12 victory at Royal Athletic Park in Victoria in the Touchdown Pacific game played in 2024. Lions quarterback and reigning CFL Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Canadian Nathan Rourke is excited for the chance to welcome Lions football to another community in British Columbia.

It will also be exciting to get out into the community and engage with our great fans in the entire region."

The Montreal Alouettes re-signed star wide receiver Tyson Philpot on Tuesday to a two-year contract.

Philpot was limited to 12 games last season, posting 61 catches for 804 yards and five touchdowns before a season-ending injury.

"This is excellent news for our team," Alouettes general manager Danny Maciocia said in a team release. "Tyson is one of the best receivers in the league—he's agile, fast, and if a ball comes near him, we know he's going to catch it. He's only 25; I believe he still hasn't reached his ceiling. This is truly a great day for us."

Philpot has spent the past four seasons with the Alouettes, posting all career-highs in 2025.

The 25-year-old native of Delta, B.C. scored the game-winning touchdown for the Alouettes to claim the Grey Cup in 2023.

{allcanada} Canada's DeBoer: Olympic ice expected to be smaller than NHL standard

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

f the situation surrounding the Olympic hockey arena just outside Milan wasn't already concerning enough, Team Canada assistant coach Pete DeBoer may have thrown some extra flames on the fire Monday afternoon.

While appearing on the Real Kyper & Bourne radio show, DeBoer was asked about adapting to the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) ruleset on the Olympic stage. But as it turns out, one of the biggest adjustments DeBoer and Canada's team full of NHL players will have to make is playing on a smaller ice surface.

"Actually, the ice surface, it looks like it's going to be smaller than NHL rink standards, by probably three or four feet," DeBoer said. "I don't understand how that happened."

"I don't believe it's a huge difference," he later added. "But I believe there is a difference, and it's on the smaller, not the bigger side."

The rink has already been generating headlines, thanks to construction delays that pushed back a test event originally scheduled for early December to Jan. 9-11.

On Nov. 22, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that the NHL and NHLPA gave the International Olympic Committee (IOC) a one-month deadline to show progress in the construction of the arena.

The first Olympic game at the rink is in the women's preliminary round, which starts on Feb. 5, just one day before the opening ceremony.

Friedman also reported that there is no Plan B in case the rink is not completed on time.

Usually, new Olympic venues are tested at least a year before hosting medal events. And with a large hockey arena, it's not just about the ice and making sure the playing surface is ready and safe. It's also about testing concession stands, bathrooms and everything else inside a brand new building.

Andrea Francisi, the chief games operations officer for Milan Cortina, told the Associated Press on Saturday that there is "no precise date" for the venue to be handed over to local organizers.

On the officiating side, DeBoer also shed some light on which referees may be working which games in Milan.

"From my understanding, it's going to be half NHL referees, half IIHF referees," he said. "And if you've got so many NHL players in (a specific) game, it has to be NHL refs.

"So I think what the bottom line of that is, is if Canada's playing Sweden, or Canada's playing the U.S. — one of those games, where both teams are loaded with NHL players — it's going to be NHL refereeing."

The men's Olympic hockey tournament is scheduled from Feb. 11-22. The women's tournament runs from Feb. 5-19.

{allcanada} Report: TFC legend Bradley frontrunner for NYRB vacancy

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

Michael Bradley appears poised for a Major League Soccer return, but this time as a manager.

The Athletic's Tom Bogert reports the former Toronto FC captain is the frontrunner to become New York Red Bulls boss.

Bradley, 38, was named head coach of MLS Next Pro side New York Red Bulls II in July. It was the Princeton, NJ native's first head coaching position after previously serving as an assistant coach under his father, Bob Bradley, at Norwegian side Stabaek and briefly spending time on Jesse Marsch's Canada staff.

Capped 153 times by the United States, Bradley ended his playing career in 2023 after a decade with the Reds. In his time with TFC, Bradley won four Canadian Championships, and the Supporters' Shield and MLS Cup in 2017 as part of an historic treble. Individually, he was named an MLS All-Star on three occasions. He made 308 appearances across all competitions for TFC.

Bradley also spent 10 seasons in Europe, suiting up for Heerenveen, Borussia Monchengladbach, Aston Villa, Chievo and Roma.

Bradley would succeed Sandro Schwarz, who was fired after two seasons last month.

Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Brandon Carlo has suffered a setback in his recovery from a lower-body injury, head coach Craig Berube told reporters Monday.

Carlo is heading back to Toronto for examination. Berube added the Leafs hope to have more information on the veteran blueliner in the next 24 hours.

Carlo last played on Nov. 13 in a game against the Los Angeles Kings. He was originally considered day-to-day before eventually being placed on the injured reserve list retroactive to that date.

Carlo practised with the Leafs last week in Washington, D.C., but was absent from Monday's session in Florida ahead of their matchup with the Panthers Tuesday evening.

He has two assists in 18 games so far this season, his first full year as a member of the Maple Leafs. Carlo came over in a deal with the Boston Bruins at last season's trade deadline in exchange for a first-rounder, a fourth-rounder and prospect Fraser Minten.

Carlo is one of many Leafs to miss time this season due to injury. He's joined on IR by goaltender Anthony Stolarz and defenceman Chris Tanev, while forwards Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies have also missed time this year, among others.
