Two B.C. fashion designers will be in the mix when Project Runway Canada begins its new season on Crave Nov. 14.
Joining 10 other hopefuls from around the country who will be snipping and sewing up a storm in a variety of challenges on the reality competition show are Terrace's Taalrumiq and Delayne Dixon of Kamloops.
Taalrumiq is an Inuvialuk and Gwich'in artist and designer who, according to show materials, draws on her ancestral sewing knowledge, as "she weaves traditional forms with contemporary fashion through her cultural and creative label, Taalrumiq." A TikTok hit, Taalrumiq is a multi-time participant in the Banff Centre's Indigenous Haute Couture Residency. Her work has also appeared in Vogue.com and Time Magazine.
Dixon comes into the show with 14 years of experience in the business, including showing her line Delayne Dixon at New York, Paris, and Amsterdam Fashion Weeks. According to a statement from the show, Dixon is known for her "Mob Wife-meets-sustainability" aesthetic.
After a 10-episode run, Canada's "next great designer" will be crowned on Jan. 16 and will receive from TD a launching investment of $100,000 and a feature spread in Elle Canada magazine.
Canadian supermodel Coco Rocha hosts and judges, alongside fashion industry icon Jeanne Beker and CAFA award-winning designer Spencer Badu. Fashion designer, author, activist, and industry insider Aurora James acts as mentor to the designers.
