Felix Auger-Aliassime is leaving Roland-Garros early.
The Canadian dropped his first-round match at the French Open 7-5, 6-2, 3-6, 4-6, 2-6 against unseeded Italian Matteo Arnaldi on Tuesday.
Auger-Alliassime fought off three match points in the fifth set but couldn't hold off Arnaldi beyond that in front of a Paris crowd that seemed firmly in the Italian's favour.
The 24-year-old Auger-Aliassime fired eight aces while committing seven double faults and converted on just four of 20 break points.
Arnaldi, 24, will next face fellow Italian Flavio Cobolli.
The result leaves just three Canadians in the second Grand Slam of the season. Denis Shapovalov, Gabriel Diallo and Victoria Mboko all won their first-round matches while Leylah Fernandez was eliminated.
