Hamilton Tiger-Cats defensive back Rodney Randle Jr. was carted off the field with an apparent neck or head injury in the third quarter of their game against the Montreal Alouettes on Friday.
Randle appeared to injure himself while making a tackle on a short catch by Eugene Lewis, when a teammate inadvertently made helmet-to-helmet contact with Randle Jr. as he went to the ground.
The medical team rushed to treat Randle Jr. on the field, and he was lifted onto a stretcher and taken out of the stadium in an ambulance after a delay of roughly 10 minutes on the field.
TSN's John Lu reported that Randle Jr. was taken to a nearby hospital for observation and that he was aware and had full movement in his extremities.
Randle Jr. was signed by the Tiger-Cats on August 23, after spending time with the Alouettes earlier in the year. He appeared in eight games for Montreal and three for Hamilton this season; he recorded two interceptions as a member of the Tiger-Cats.
The native of Beaumont, Texas played for the University of Oregon for four years, and also appeared in NFL mini-camps with the Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Chargers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in his career.
