{allcanada} Canucks name Derek Clancey as new assistant general manager

The Vancouver Canucks have named Derek Clancey as the team's new assistant general manager, a role that will involve him overseeing the franchise's professional and amateur scouting staffs.

"We are building a front office with people with a variety of backgrounds," Jim Rutherford, the Canucks' president of hockey operations and interim general manager, said in a statement. "Derek has excellent experience and has played an important role on three Stanley Cup-winning teams. He will be a key member of our leadership team as we create a progressive, collaborative hockey operations group that can support our team and players at all levels."

Clancey most recently worked in the NHL as a pro scout with the Calgary Flames, though his career extends beyond that.

The 52-year-old joins the Canucks after spending most of his NHL career with the Pittsburgh Penguins between 2007 and 2021, where he last served as the team's director of player personnel from 2019 to February 2021.
