{allcanada} Canucks sign forward Alex Chiasson to one-year, $750K contract

The Vancouver Canucks signed right winger Alex Chiasson to a one-year contract worth $750,000, the team announced Tuesday.

Chiasson joined the Canucks on a professional tryout in September and had two assists in four pre-season games.

"Alex is an established veteran who plays a physical game and brings a valuable net-front presence to our team, particularly on the power play," Canucks general manager Jim Benning said in a statement. "He's a bigger player that doesn't shy away from the tough areas of the ice and has fit in well with the rest of our forward group so far."

The 31-year-old from Montreal spent the previous three years with the Edmonton Oilers and had nine goals and seven assists for 16 points in 45 regular season games during the 2020-21 campaign.

Chiasson, who was drafted in the second round by Dallas in 2009, has 101 goals and 101 assists in 564 games over nine seasons with the Stars, Ottawa Senators, Calgary Flames, Washington Capitals and Oilers. He won the Stanley Cup with the Capitals in 2018.
