{allcanada} Canucks' Edler suspended two games for kneeing Maple Leafs' Hyman

Vancouver Canucks defenceman Alexander Edler has been suspended two games for kneeing Toronto Maple Leafs forward Zach Hyman, the league announced Monday.

The incident occurred at 10:08 of the second period during Sunday's game between the Canucks and Maple Leafs. After forcing a turnover near centre ice, Hyman carried the puck toward the Canucks' zone. Edler skated forward to challenge Hyman and, when Hyman made a move to evade the hit, Edler stuck his right leg out resulting in a direct knee-on-knee collision between the players.

Hyman hobbled the dressing room and didn't return for the final 30 minutes of the game, which the Canucks won 3-2 in overtime.

Hyman, who had previously undergone surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee, will miss at least two weeks with a sprained right MCL.

Based on Edler's average annual salary, he will forfeit $103,444.28 due to the suspension.
