{allcanada} Watson out 4-6 weeks for Senators with hand injury

Austin Watson will be out 4-6 weeks for the Ottawa Senators with a hand injury.

The forward was injured blocking a shot in the final seconds of a 2-1 win against the Calgary Flames on Monday.

"That's a big loss for us," Senators coach D.J. Smith said Wednesday. "He gives you absolutely everything that he can for 12 minutes. When you talk about a guy that's coming in to help your culture, I don't know if [general manager Pierre Dorion] could've brought in a more perfect guy for that situation. He's selfless, he shows you how it should be done."

Watson has scored 10 points (three goals, seven assists) averaging 12:00 of ice time in 34 games this season. He is second on the Senators in hits (100; Brady Tkachuk 147) and in blocked shots (49; Nikita Zaitsev, 65).

"He's played in the Stanley Cup Final (2017 with the Nashville Predators), he's been around the League, he's been up and down, on and off the ice," Smith said. "He's experienced it all. And to me, he's been the absolute perfect guy to bring into our group and show you just how hard you have to play if you play 12 minutes."

The Senators (11-20-3) host the Flames on Wednesday (5 p.m. ET; TVAS, TSN5, SNW, NHL.TV). Ottawa is last in the seven-team Scotia North Division. The top four teams qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
