{allcanada} Galchenyuk to make Maple Leafs debut

Alex Galchenyuk will make his Maple Leafs debut against the Calgary Flames on Friday (7 p.m. ET; TVAS, SNO, SNW, ESPN+, NHL.TV).

The forward, who was acquired in a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes on Feb. 15, will skate on a line with John Tavares and William Nylander. Galchenyuk scored one goal in eight games with the Ottawa Senators this season and eight points (two goals, six assists) in six games with Toronto of the American Hockey League.

"Having four days off between games and a couple practice days was a good chance for him to be around our team," coach Sheldon Keefe said. "He's played very well with the Marlies and he's handled himself very well. He's got lots of confidence and is really feeling good about his game so the timing is right."

Wayne Simmonds will return to the lineup. The forward, who has not played since sustaining a broken wrist against the Vancouver Canucks on Feb. 6, will play on a line with Pierre Engvall and Jason Spezza.

Simmonds has scored five goals in 12 games in his first season with Toronto.

"Power play-wise, even strength, on the bench, in the locker room, he's been a great player for our team," forward Mitchell Marner said. "I think everyone is excited when we get him back here. He comes in with a positive mindset every day and that's something everyone wants to have but is hard every once in a while. But he does it very well and it's something you want to be around."

Goalie Jack Campbell will back up Frederik Andersen. Campbell has been out since Feb. 27 with a lower-body injury.
