{allcanada} McDavid could return for Oilers against Jets

EDMONTON -- Connor McDavid could return to the lineup when the Edmonton Oilers play the Winnipeg Jets at Rogers Place on Wednesday (9 p.m. ET, SN, TVAS, NHL.TV).

Oilers coach Dave Tippett said after practice Tuesday there is a good possibility the center will play. McDavid missed a 3-2 overtime loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday because of an illness.

"Connor was in this morning, saw the training staff, had a little workout and left, so we'll see where he's at in the morning," Tippett said.

McDavid is second in the NHL with 96 points (33 goals, 63 assists) in 63 games behind teammate Leon Draisaitl (110 points; 43 goals, 67 assists in 70 games). McDavid, Edmonton's captain, has 15 points (three goals, 12 assists) in eight games after missing six from Feb. 11-21 with a leg injury.

Kailer Yamamoto did not practice because of what Tippett said was a maintenance day. The rookie forward has 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists) in 26 games since being recalled from Bakersfield of the American Hockey League on Dec. 29.

The Oilers (37-24-9) were second in the Pacific Division, three points back of the first-place Golden Knights.
