{allcanada} Hiller, former Ducks, Flames goalie, retires from hockey

 

Jonas Hiller announced his retirement from hockey on Monday.

The 38-year-old goalie, who last played in the NHL with the Calgary Flames in 2015-16, spent the past four seasons with EHC Biel-Bienne of the National League, the top professional league in Switzerland.

Signed as an undrafted free agent by the Anaheim Ducks on May 25, 2007, Hiller went 162-110-32 with a 2.51 goals-against average, a .916 save percentage and 21 shutouts in 326 games in seven seasons with Anaheim, including being selected to play in the 2011 NHL All-Star Game.

Following the 2013-14 season, Hiller signed as a free agent with Calgary, where he went 35-30-5 in 78 games (67 starts).

In nine NHL seasons, Hiller was 197-140-37 with a 2.55 GAA, a .914 save percentage and 23 shutouts in 404 games (375 starts). He was 15-15 with a 2.35 GAA, a .930 save percentage and three shutouts in 33 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Hiller played in three Olympic Games for Switzerland. He led all goalies in with a 1.14 GAA and .956 save percentage in the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, and was second in GAA (0.67) and save percentage (.971) at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. He also played in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
