{allcanada} Canadiens sign forward Alex Belzile to one-year, two-way deal

Montreal Canadiens have signed forward Alex Belzile to a one-year, two-way contract, worth $700,000 and $225,000 in the AHL, for the 2020-21 season, the team announced Friday.

The deal comes with a guaranteed salary of $250,000.

Belzile, 28, has spent the past two seasons with the Canadiens' minor-league affiliate, the Laval Rocket. He had 14 points in 20 games with the Rocket this season.

"Since joining our organization, Alex has continued to impress us with his determination and work ethic. He's a role model for the younger players we have developing in Laval. His on-ice skillset combined with his leadership qualities will help him battle for a roster spot at training camp next season," said general manager Marc Bergevin in a statement.

The Saint-Eloi, Que., native has never appeared in an NHL game, but has collected 132 points across 239 AHL games since 2012-23.

"It was important for me to take this opportunity that will allow me to pursue my career in the organization I grew up cheering for," Belzile said. "Even as a 28-year-old, I still feel like I keep growing and improving as a hockey player. I hope to continue to help the Canadiens and the Rocket."
