{allcanada} Canadiens’ Jonathan Drouin, Paul Byron to miss multiple weeks after surgeries

The Montreal Canadiens will be without two key forwards for multiple weeks, the team announced Monday.

Jonathan Drouin will have surgery on his wrist Monday while Paul Byron will have knee surgery Tuesday. Both players were injured in Friday's win over the Washington Capitals and didn't play in Saturday's loss to the New Jersey Devils.

Drouin suffered his injury late in the Capitals game, but the team says it didn't happen on the big hit he received from Alex Ovechkin.

"It happened in the third period and by the end of the third period (of Friday's game) he couldn't go anymore," head coach Claude Julien said on Saturday, according to the Montreal Gazette. "It had zero, zero to do… everybody's thinking it had something to do with the hit from Ovechkin, but it had nothing to do with it. He was cleared, he felt great, he came back and he got re-injured afterwards from something totally different."

The 24-year-old Drouin has gotten off to a great start to the season, scoring seven goals and 15 points in 19 games so far.

It's unclear how Byron's injury occurred, but his last shift came with less than five minutes to go in the Capitals game. He has one goal and four points in 19 games this season.
